Alphabet blogging: D

There is this prompt that does the rounds that tells you to blog using the alphabet as your guide. Each letter becomes a blog. I decided that as a challenge, this would be good to get me blogging every day.

D = dystopian

The dictionary describes dystopian as a community or society where things are extremely bad. It is hard to look around and not imagine that we are living in that world already.

I open the news and there is nothing but bad news – attacks on other people, threats and taunts, trying to find the absolute worst in people at any cost and then broadcasting that. Gossip about who is doing what and how. I am not innocent myself. I perpetuate the gossip by reading the articles and clicking on the bait.

I know there will be those who say that things were better 20, 30 even 40 years ago. In reality they were not. They had their own challenges to face, their own inbred hatred and malcontent. The world may have been smaller then, thereby reducing the impact, as travel was not as as widespread and world news was restricted, but that dystopia lived.

It is exacerbated today because we want to know everything and share everything on social media. One news outlet will report one way, and another will have a different stance. Somewhere in all of the information that is thrown at us, lies the truth. It is well hidden.

Of course, this leads to personal – it wouldn’t be my blog otherwise. I am a firm believer in the adage that you are master (mistress if you must) of your own destiny. The below quote says it all, and it was something I stuck to 2 years ago.

The discontent and frustration that you feel is entirely your own creation.” ― Stephen Richards

I am creating my own dystopia. How sad is that? Yes, there is help in creating said dystopia, and my most important relationship has hit a rough patch so badly that I am wondering how we will ever be able to find high ground again. The problem is that the longer I walk in this dystopian world of mine, the harder it is to find a way out.

Deep breath! Hour by hour is the only way forward.
